EPISODE 1 - INTEREST CHECK

This is the official interest check for Episode 1 of Grief Street, The Disorient Express. The Disorient Express is a short-term, one-shot murder mystery game, inspired by murder mystery parties and whodunnits. Characters are passengers aboard a luxury train line when they get stuck in a heavy blizzard. One of their fellow (NPC) passengers is murdered, and it’s up to the characters to figure out who killed them and why. Everyone has secrets to hide, and everyone is a suspect!

The game is run by Everett (wolfnoir) and will be invite only. Players on Everett’s timeline can extend one invite to an additional person.

Players can either AU canon characters into the setting or create a completely original character for the game. The game will have a heavy focus on investigation, interpersonal drama/intrigue, and of course, murder. It will take place over the course of two weeks, and will require high levels of engagement. We ask you to carefully consider these factors before committing to this game.

Reserves will open November 4th, 2022. The game will run from November 20th to December 3rd. Up to 15 players can participate, with the game running on a minimum of 10 players.

Hi Limon! Thanks for your interest in the game. The game will only have one murder--a non-player character named Andrea Romero. We wanted to use an NPC so that everyone has the chance to play detective! Also, knowing who'll be murdered OOCly gives people a chance to play up being a suspect later on. Of course, the amount of murders could potentially change based on player decisions--more on that in a bit.

Private conversations are a fantastic idea! Though we didn't plan to include them originally, they'll work nicely with the game's elements of secrecy and drama. We'll make optional for players who want do that.

Though currently there aren't any major events planned besides what's already been outlined, this may change based on what characters decide to do during the game. For example, if a player reaches out and says they want their character to attempt to kill a suspected culprit (and fail), we'd be down to set up an event for that! If the culprit wants to set up a second murder halfway through the week for the sake of drama, we could hash it out. This game is intended to be pretty flexible and be shaped by the player's ideas.

One last question: will the game have a discord?

The game will not have an official discord server, on account that this is a one-man show and would probably not have time to also moderate that on top of running the game (sweats). But people are encouraged to reach out to each other on discord and plurk for plotting! All important announcements will put up on our plurk.

I just realized I misread your first question and thought you said murder instead of murderer...but anyways, to answer it for real, we'll have only one culprit for the sake of keeping things simple! Solving a murder is difficult enough, but when you throw in interpersonal drama and false leads and red herrings, it becomes even harder.

Characters should be 18 years or older! We can make an exception for a younger character if you feel particularly strongly about a character idea, but please, don't bring children on board the murder train.

Future episodes might allow for characters to keep their powers, depending on the premise! Not all of them will be murder mysteries. 😏
