What is Grief Street? It lies between the waking and dreaming world, between reality and fiction. It encompasses the fears and hopes of humanity. It can be anytime, anyplace. It ebbs and flows with the tides of chaos. Step carefully when you find yourself here, for before you lies infinite choice and endless possibilities.

You cannot find Grief Street on any map, but it can find you–for no matter where humankind goes, grief follows.

Grief Street is a collection of one-shot, short-run games, divided into “episodes”—think of anthology shows like “The Twilight Zone”, except RP. One episode may have characters solving a traditional murder mystery. Another may have the characters attempting to escape a time loop. Yet another might be your standard murdergame, with a twist. What will you find on Grief Street?

A list of 'episodes' can be found below.

In order to make things a little more juicy, we want to know what your character will be doing on the night before the murder takes place--aka, what they'll be doing on the evening of day three. Did they stay in their cabin all night? Did they try to search the bar while the staff was away to sneak a drink or two? Whatever the case is, we'll let you know if you see or hear something...unusual.

Please comment to this post by Wednesday, November 23rd, 12:00PM EST. We will assume characters that don't check in to be asleep in their quarters during the murder. If we need to adjust your character's movements due to murder plans, we'll try to let you know ahead of time.

Want to speak to Romero or Ernest in private? Feel free to approach them and strike up a conversation. Who knows what sort of information you'll be able to uncover?

Please note the week and day in your subject lines!

To emphasize the intrigue and secret-gathering aspect of the murder mystery game, we're giving players the option to have private conversations! Private conversations can occur anywhere within the setting of the game, and with any number of characters. Private conversations should be posted on a character's respective journal and filtered to only the character journals involved as well as the mod journal, [personal profile] thedirectors.

Private conversations are completely optional, so if for whatever reason you don't want to use them, that's totally fine!

Please post all private conversations that occur here within 24 hours of starting them. All comments on this page will be screened, and unscreened when the game finishes. Below is a tutorial on how to grant journal access and set up filters.

This is the official interest check for Episode 1 of Grief Street, The Disorient Express. The Disorient Express is a short-term, one-shot murder mystery game, inspired by murder mystery parties and whodunnits. Characters are passengers aboard a luxury train line when they get stuck in a heavy blizzard. One of their fellow (NPC) passengers is murdered, and it’s up to the characters to figure out who killed them and why. Everyone has secrets to hide, and everyone is a suspect!

The game is run by Everett ([plurk.com profile] wolfnoir) and will be invite only. Players on Everett’s timeline can extend one invite to an additional person.

Players can either AU canon characters into the setting or create a completely original character for the game. The game will have a heavy focus on investigation, interpersonal drama/intrigue, and of course, murder. It will take place over the course of two weeks, and will require high levels of engagement. We ask you to carefully consider these factors before committing to this game.

Reserves will open November 4th, 2022. The game will run from November 20th to December 3rd. Up to 15 players can participate, with the game running on a minimum of 10 players.

More information on schedule/format can be found in our FAQ! Make sure to follow our Plurk account, [plurk.com profile] griefstreet for updates!

Applications are closed!

The application process for this game is a little different than your typical RP game. Instead of giving a comprehensive overview of your character, you’ll be filling out a form that’ll serve as a dossier of character information that relates to the mystery at hand. There are two main options if you want to app:

  • A player can create an alternative history for a canon character to fit the setting. Basically, you’ll be making an AU for your character. Why not have Kermit the Frog fill the role of the bumbling, stalwart detective, or Victor Frankenstein be a shady doctor lurking at the back of the crime scene?

  • Alternatively, a player can create an entirely original character for the setting.
You can read more about the game setting and the victim here to help you write your application.

If you have a unique character idea, we strongly encourage you to reach out so we can work with you! Our application process is meant to be a back-and-forth between player and mod, as opposed to a one-time submission--kind of like the process of building a character for a tabletop roleplaying game. We’ve provided a list of example character concepts below. Feel free to use them as inspiration for your own characters.

You can reach out to us either via our plurk ([plurk.com profile] griefstreet) or Discord (wolfnoir#4990) to chat/bounce ideas off!
